Colin Forde

Dr. Forde has over 50 years of experience as a concert pianist, organist and adult and children’s choir director. Born in Guyana, he was a First Violinist with the National Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the National Theatre Guild before emigrating to further his musical studies. He received his early training through the Royal School of Music, London, England, and Florida International University in Miami (B. Mus.).

Dr. Forde did his graduate studies in Musical Counseling Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University in New York City (M.A., M.Ed.) where he completed his doctorate in Education and Human Development (Ed.D.). He also did post-doctoral internship in Child Development and Child Psychiatry under an NIMH Fellowship and has been a member of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) since 1970, and served as Minister of Music in Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey and New York.

Dr. Colin Forde conducts choral workshops and church music seminars on The Psychology of Music, analyzing the effects of music on human behavior (Mind, Body and Spirit). An adjunct Professor of Education and Counseling Psychology, he has taught courses in Childhood and Adolescent Development at the University of Louisville, was appointed a Visiting Scholar at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kentucky, and engaged in post-doctoral research into the Behavioral and Neurophysiological Effects of Music on Children, Adolescents and Adults.

Since 1977 he has been elected to membership in the New York Academy of Sciences and his biography is listed in Who’s Who in America. Dr. Forde has taught children and adults for many years and we are honored to add him to our staff at DSPA!
