Our fall dance program begins the same day Rockdale County Schools start and ends with the Recital in June. We are usually given the confirmed Recital dates by mid October. We DO NOT take off Staff Development Days, Teacher Workdays, Curriculum Planning Days, etc… We will be closed on: Labor Day Fall Break Thanksgiving Break Christmas/New Year Break MLK Day Winter Break Spring Break Make-up classes are typically held on Friday’s or on holiday breaks depending on teacher and student availability. We usually take at least 1 week off after Recital and 1 week off before school starts, holding Dance Camps and Summer Program in between. Independent instructors offering classes at our studio may maintain a different schedule. Please contact the school at 770-388-7916 for your particular class schedule.
Please get a copy of the Fee Schedule for specific pricing. Tuition for the year is split into: 10 equal payments due once a month, 2 equal payments that includes a 5% discount due at July registration and January, or 1 payment for the entire school year that includes a 10% discount. Students who begin after the 1 st scheduled class or who end the year with more than 40 classes in the schedule may owe some tuition in June. Tuition is due by the 7 th of each month. There is $10 late fee for tuition that is not paid by the 7 th. Your first month of tuition is due at your first class and may be pro-rated. In September there is a Recital fee due. In November there is a Costume Fee due. There is a $25.00 fee for returned checks. Please do your best to make all payments on time. Thank You! ATTENDANCE It is important that classes be attended regularly if proper progress and development are to be maintained. Remember too that dance is a group activity and it is difficult to work on many aspects of dancing without the entire class present. If you cannot attend a class please contact the school as soon as possible so the instructor can plan class accordingly. If a child is not contagious, it is preferable for them to watch if possible rather than not be there at all. They can still learn a lot from watching or just walking through their positions in a dance routine. Perfect Attendance (no class missed from the 1 st one scheduled through the last one before the June program) and Honorable Mention (only 1 class missed during that time) receive certificates at Dress Rehearsal. Classes made-up do not count. That is why these awards are such a special honor! We have always given an exception to students who are at a rehearsal or performance during their regular class time. We are adding one more exception for out of county students who miss class during their Fall or Spring Break. (Exception will be made for only one of these weeks, not both.) Please notify your teacher at least a week in advance so she can properly mark the absence. If you think there is mistake in your child’s attendance record, please speak to the teacher so she can check her attendance book and make any necessary changes. WATCH DAYS and AUDITIONS are scheduled 2-3 times per year. Parents are notified in regular newsletters and notices posted on the bulletin board. Check with your child each week as to whether they received any hand-outs. Newsletters, notes home, overdue statements, and credit notices are handed out in class to each individual student as needed. Dance, being a physical activity, has the potential to result in injury. We have take every precaution to ensure a safe environment for you and your children including spring-step floor construction with alleviates stress on joints, professional stage-step, non-skid floor surfaces for the optimal amount of slide and the sturdiest design of custom-made barres. It is important for the studio and teacher to know if your child has any medical conditions of which we should be aware and to check with your physician before resuming full participation in classes after any injury. CLASS ETIQUETTE
BEFORE CLASS students should use the restroom and be dressed in the proper attire with hair secured neatly away from face. It is important that students are ready on time for their class, so they should arrive early enough to take care of these necessities. Cell phones should be turned off before class or left at the front desk for receptionist to answer if you are expecting an emergency call. DURING CLASS students are expected to pay attention to their instructor, accept praise and criticism with equal grace, and be respectful of others. Students who do not conduct themselves appropriately may be asked to sit out in class or in the waiting areas until called back in by the instructor. Class should be enjoyable but it is not a time to talk or play with friends. AFTER CLASS students should applaud when dismissed and leave class quickly in an orderly fashion. There are usually other students waiting to enter for their own class so those exiting should put on street clothes and shoes in the waiting areas and not in the studio. CHEWING GUM IS NOT PERMITTED!!! If you have questions or something a teacher should be aware of, these can be addressed in a quick note brought in by the student or by leaving a message for the instructor or director to call during off-teaching hours so they will not take any more time than necessary away from class. Evaluation sheets are also available for your convenience. GENERAL ATTIRE
REQUIREMENTS Please see Dress Code handout or inquire at the desk for specific attire requirements. When coming to class or leaving, students are expected to dress modestly. Dance students should never wear just their leotards and tights outside, but should always wear a cover-up, such as a shirt and pants/skirt or dress. Never wear dance shoes outside since this will damage your shoes and our floors. All items brought into class should be marked with student’s name including shoes, leotards, dance bags, etc. We are not responsible for items left at the school! The dress code for each specific class is subject to a teacher’s wishes. Please respect these requests!
There is a Lost & Found basket in the lobby. Please make a regular habit of checking it. At the end of each month any items not claimed will be given away or brought to a thrift store. On the right side of the front desk is also a Lost & Found for small objects such as hair clips, sunglasses, etc… Items in the plastic bins are for sale by the owner. Please do not mix these with the Lost and Found items. WAITING AREAS Children waiting should not be unattended in any area of the school. It is important that students do not run in the hall or make noise that disturbs classes in any way. Books and toys used should be treated with care and put back after use. Due to some people’s allergies, no pets are allowed in the building, also smoking is not permitted. AWARDS AND SHOWS
Awards are given out onstage at our Dress Rehearsal for students who have been with Dominy School for five or more years. Trophies are given to those in Grade 7 who have stayed with us for 5 years or more and to Graduating High School Seniors who have been with us for 5 or more years. Those with us 10 years or more receive a medal. Certificates are given to those who have Perfect Attendance or Honorable Mention (1 class missed all year.) Our students perform in an annual production each June. Mrs. Dominy writes an original story which showcases our students and local acting talent. In addition to these shows our relationship with area dance companies allows our students to audition for the Nutcracker each fall and a spring show which varies from year to year, usually based on a popular children’s fairy tale. Audition information is posted at the studio and listed in our monthly student newsletter. At times our students are called upon to perform at local festivals or events and there are competition opportunities for those classes which show an interest and abilities in these areas. We are so pleased you have chosen our studio. There is a world of opportunity waiting for you!
