CLASS ATTIRE INFORMATION

HAIR: should be pulled up neatly and securely away from the face unless otherwise specified to avoid injury to the eyes while turning and free the hands to accompany the dance rather than habitually fix the hair. Headbands, scrunchies and cloth-covered bands that do not stay in place well should not be used.
For 1 or 1 ½ hr ballet classes a classical bun or secured braids must be worn with no wispies or hanging pieces. You will need bobby pins and French hair nets which can be purchased at any beauty supply store. Bun warmers are also acceptable if secured with bobby pins. Your ballet teacher can show you how to secure the hair properly. Practice makes perfect and students age 8+ should be able to do their own hair!

No jewelry (post ear-rings are okay), no watches, no gum.

A water fountain is available but you may bring plain bottled water into the studios. Food and other drinks should be kept in the kitchen only.

ENFORCEMENT: Students not in proper attire or without proper hairstyles may be asked to leave the room and make corrections before returning to their class.

BALLET: Black Leotard, Pink Footed Tights, Pink Soft Leather or Canvas Ballet Slippers, (Hair in a classical bun or braided style close to the head with no loose ends - see above.)

BALLROOM DANCING: Dress is casual but you will need smooth-soled shoes that stay on the foot well. A closed-toe shoe that has a strap behind the heel is great for the ladies.

CONTEMPORARY: Tan convertible tights, dark color leotard, tan split-sole elastic gore jazz boot. Pants such as sweatpants cut to the knee are great (no buckles, zippers, snaps, or long pants). T-shirts must fit so as to not ride up during stretching or handstands or gape open at the neck doing push-up. No bare midriffs allowed at any time. Black leggings that come to mid-thigh or longer must be worn under shorts. If leggings do not extend below the knee you must wear tights under your leggings.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT: Black Leotard (any style sleeve; may have an attached short skirt but not a tutu), Pink Footed Tights (no additional underwear), Pink Soft Leather Ballet Slippers

HIP HOP and JAZZ FUNK/HIP HOP: Any color leotard, tan footed tights (not hose), tan split-sole elastic gore jazz boot, jazz pants (must not be so long they are stepped on), T-shirts may be worn at the teacher's discretion but should not be so loose that they ride up during a handstand or gape at the neck doing push-ups).

JAZZ and MODERN JAZZ/FUNK: Any Color Leotard, Tan Convertible Tights, Tan Split Sole Elastic Gore Jazz Boot, Jazz Pants

MARTIAL ARTS: Karate uniforms are ordered through Dale Young, the Karate Instructor. You can get a free generic student uniform when paying the 3-month rate or order and pay seperately if going month to month.

TAP/BALLET COMBINATION: Black leotard (any style sleeve; may have an attached short skirt but not a net tutu), pink footed tights (no additional underwear), pink soft leather ballet slippers, flat white (not patent leather) tap shoes.

TAP: Any color leotard, tan footed tights, tan tap shoes with a strap (flat shoes for kids, character shoe for intermediate level and up…split-sole elastic gore jazz/tap shoe may be needed for rhythm tap dance styles)

WORLD FUSION BELLY DANCE: Yoga Pants, Jazz Pants, Tribal Flairs, or Stretch Pants. Pants that are loose, easy to move in and have an elastic waist that can be rolled down to the hip are great. A yoga wrap top or other cropped top is best. T-shirt or leotard is acceptable. No belt is required. Purchase Zills (Finger Cymbals) at Angels Dancewear (Flat Shoals Rd & Hwy 138 behind Moe's).
